Quickturn, Philips Semiconductors, and the University of Rostock Announce Joint Technology Partnership Program

MUNICH, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 8, 2001-- Design, Automation, and Test in Europe 2001 -- Quickturn, a company of Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CDN) and Philips Semiconductors Hamburg today announced that Philips Semiconductors will donate one of its Quickturn emulation systems to the University of Rostock, and Quickturn will donate the software environment and ongoing hardware support of the system. The Quickturn emulation system is used to verify integrated circuit (IC) and application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) designs.

``The University is very pleased to receive this highly valuable system,'' said Professor Dirk Timmermann, head of the electrical engineering department at the University of Rostock. ``It will be the foundation of our Expert Education Program for training engineers on the theories and use of breakthrough emulation technology. We are delighted to partner with Philips Semiconductors and Quickturn to help educate our future electronics design engineers.''

``The time required for verifying today's complex ASICs and ICs is growing substantially. Philips Semiconductors was an early adopter of Quickturn's emulation technology, which has greatly improved our product quality and time-to-market,'' Peter Langner, development support manager of Philips Semiconductors Hamburg. ``We are glad to provide such important technology to the University of Rostock, which has a long history of experience in verification and prototyping. Through this partnership, we hope the talented students of Rostock will be inspired to obtain the verification skills required in our industry.''

``This donation reinforces Quickturn's commitment to higher education. We support educational initiatives that implement innovative ways to use, advance and share verification technology,'' said Gary Wilkins, vice president of Quickturn Europe. ``The University will use the donated equipment and software to educate engineering students looking for a top-notch education, and who are our future employees or customers. We are pleased to continue our long-standing relationship with Philips Semiconductors, and extend this partnership to include the University of Rostock.''
